ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team welcomes perennial power No. 10 Mercyhurst University to Ritter Arena for a pair of matinee contests this weekend. Both College Hockey America contests get underway at 2 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Last weekend, the Tigers (7-5-1, 3-0-1 CHA) extended their unbeaten streak to four games with a weekend sweep of Penn State. The Tigers rallied late in both games, scoring twice in the final six minutes to pull out a 2-1 win on Friday, while coming back from 2-0 down to earn a 3-2 win on Saturday. On Friday, #

Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# stopped 22 shots to earn the win. On Saturday, #
Marissa Maugeri (Ajax, Ontario/Durham West Lightning) scored twice and assisted on (Brantford, Ontario/Assumption Collegiate)Erin Zach (Elmira, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)#'s game-winner in the third period. Binnington made 21 saves, including three crucial stops in the final minute.
Binnington is 5-0-1 with a 0.82 goals against average and .963 save percentage during her personal six-game unbeaten streak. She last lost on Oct. 12 vs. Vermont. Binnington is 10th nationally with a 1.97 goals against average and 11th with a .928 save percentage. RIT has out-scored its opponents 30-21 over its last 12 games.
Mercyhurst enters this weekend ranked No. 10 nationally with a 7-4-2 mark. Last weekend, the Lakers earned three points in a weekend series vs. CHA rival Syracuse, skating to a 3-3 tie and winning 5-3. Mercyhurst is outscoring its opponents, 37-24 this season. Christine Bestland leads the team in scoring with 19 points on seven goals and 12 assists. The Lakers have four players with at least 10 points. In net, Amanda Makela is 7-4-2 with a 1.93 goals against average and .927 save percentage.
Mercyhurst won all four meetings between the two schools last season by a combined 22-5. The Lakers defeated RIT in their first two Division I games at Ritter Arena by scores of 6-2 and 7-0 and ended the regular season with 4-1 and 5-2 win at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers are 372-103-32 since becoming a Division I program in 1999. Mercyhurst has made nine straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Frozen Four berth last season and are 146-10-10 in CHA play.
