Volleyball roars back from two sets down to earn five-set victory over The College at Brockport



BROCKPORT, NY - The RIT volleyball team (11-15) roared back from a two-sets to zero deficit, winning the final three sets to earn a hard-fought, five-set victory over The College at Brockport (9-10) at the Jim and John Vlogianitis Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. The Golden Eagles won the first two sets, 25-20, 25-17, before RIT took the final three sets by scores of 25-19, 26-24, 15-13.

Freshman right side #Sarah Szybist (Chicago, IL/Ramstein)# continued her torrid first season, tying a career-high with 25 kills to go along with 13 digs. She entered tonight's match tied for 10th nationally in both kills per set and points per set.

Junior libero #Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) set a new career-high with 35 digs. The 35 digs in a match were the most by a RIT player since (Chicago, IL/Ramstein)Laura Grell# recorded 38 against Mt. Union College on Sept. 24, 2004.

Freshman #Emma Dowdy (Cocoa, FL/Edgewood) dished out 34 assists to go along qith 13 digs. Sophomore (Chicago, IL/Ramstein)Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit)# recorded 12 digs and seven kills, while #Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon)# had seven kills and five kills.

Amanda Riebe led Brockport with 16 kills and 13 digs, while Jamie Snyder added 13 kills and three service aces. Jessica Greiner dished out 48 assists, while Mary Cocking had a team-best 22 digs.

RIT is now 50-27 all-time against Brockport, 2-0 this season. on Sept. 13, RIT rolled to a 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 win over the Goden Eagles at the RIT Invitational.

RIT is off this weekend, but returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 15 with a home match against SUNY Cortland that gets underway at 6 p.m. from Clark Gym.
