Women's hockey to play pair of games against Colgate this weekend, host annual Meet and Greet on Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT women's hockey team returns to action this weekend with a pair of games against non-conference foe Colgate University. Friday's game will be played at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex on the campus of Monroe Community College, while Saturday's contest is at Ritter Arena. Both games start at 7 p.m. In addition, the Tigers and Barnes and Noble at Park Point will host the third annual RIT women's hockey meet and greet on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
 
Saturday's meet and greet will be the team's only autograph session of the season. Attendees will be able to purchase a 2013-14 RIT women's hockey team photo that can be autographed by members of the squad for a minimum $1 donation. There will also be a silent auction, raffle prizes and giveaways, with all money raised going to AutismUp. In addition, Barnes and Noble will offer 20 percent off all apparel during the event.

AutismUp is the leading 501(c)3 autism organization in Rochester and the surrounding areas. Founded in 2004, by a small group of parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the mission is to support individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and their families, by expanding and enhancing opportunities to improve quality of life. RIT celebrated Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend by splittng a two-game series against Vermont of Hockey East. On Friday, the Tigers skated to a 6-0 win. #Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects)# scored a pair of goals, while #Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs)# made 33 saves to record her ninth career shutout. On Saturday, the Tigers fell to the Catamounts by a score of 5-2. #Dakota Waites (Whitby, Ontario/Sinclair)# had three assists on the weekend, while #Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas) had two goals and an assist. (Brantford, Ontario/Assumption Collegiate)Lindsay Stenason (Oakville, Ontario/Appleby Collegiate) and Brittany St. James (Orono, Ontario/St. Stephen Catholic)# scored their first collegiate goals.
 
#Jess Paton (Woodstock, Ontario/Waterloo K-W Rangers)# and McCrea lead the Tigers in scoring with five points apiece. Both have three goals and two assists. Kunichika has a team-best four goals. In goal, Binnington is 2-3-0 with a 3.67 goals against average and .896 save percentage.

Colgate enters this weekend with a 1-3-0 record. Last weekend, the Raiders split a pair of games against Connecticut. On Friday, the Raiders lost 3-2 in overtime, and won by a score of 1-0 on Saturday. On Saturday, goaltender Susan Allen made 37 saves to earn the shutout, while Taylor Craig scored a first period goal. Miriam Drubel leads the team in scoring with four points on two goals and two assists. Melissa Kueber also has a pair of goals. In net, Ashlynne Rando has played in three games with a 4.91 goals against average and .846 save percentage. Allen is 1-0 with a 1.25 goals against average and .964 save percentage.
 
RIT is 13-4-1 against Colgate all-time but is winless in its last four contests against the Raiders. RIT's last win against Colgate came on Feb. 7, 1999, a 3-0 shutout win at Colgate.  Last season, The Tigers dropped a pair of one-goal games against the Raiders. Colgate defeated RIT 2-1 at Starr Rink and 3-2 in overtime at Ritter Arena. RIT held a lead in both games.
 
This weekend is the annual "Fire on Ice" Hockey Tournament, a weekend for girl's and women's hockey in the greater Rochester area.  Both games should be well attended.

There is free admission for Friday's game at the Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex. Tickets for this Saturday's game are available at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center Box Office or by phone at (585) 475-4121. Fans can also purchase tickets at www.rithockey.com. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $4 for faculty/staff/alumni and $3 for students and youth. RIT student admission is free with valid ID (ticket must be picked up at the box office, one per ID).

This is the final season that RIT will play at historic Ritter Arena. In 2014-15, RIT will move into the Gene Polisseni Center, which is expected to seat 4,500 fans. Come out, support the Tigers, and "Rock the Ritter".
