Box Score GENEVA, NY – The RIT men's basketball team (4-7, 0-2 Liberty League) couldn't overcome a slow start and dropped their third straight game, as host Hobart (7-4, 3-0) held the lead for all but 36 seconds en route to a convincing 75-41 victory at Bristol Gymnasium on Tuesdat evening. Hobart entered the game second in the conference in shooting percentage at 46.1 percent and finished the contest 26-for-54 (48.1 percent) and 8-of-15 (53.3 percent) from long range. Meanwhile, the Tigers were held to 26.2 percent shooting.
The Statesmen started the game hot and never looked back. The Liberty League scoring leader, Richie Bonney, scored eight points in the game's first eight minutes as Hobart ran out to an 18-5 lead early in the first half. The Tigers misfired on 19 of their first 24 field goal attempts as Hobart extended the lead to 19 with four-and-a-half minutes remaining. #J.P. Reagan# did his best to keep the Tigers within striking distance, scoring seven of RIT's first 14 points.
The Statesmen took a 40-19 lead into the half and held RIT to 8-for-32 from the field. Hobart shots 48.1 percent from the floor and knocked down 4-of-7 attempts from the three point line. Bonney ended the half two rebounds shy of a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers were unable to get the deficit any lower than 23 points in the second half.
Bonney, who scored 69 points in the Statesmen's previous two games, finished with 15 points and 9 rebounds in 23 minutes. He entered the contest averaging 22.2 points per game.
Hobart held a 45-30 advantage in rebounds and 11 different Statesmen scored.
RIT was led by 10 points from Reagen and seven points from
Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers).
The Tigers return to action on Friday night as they travel to Troy, N.Y. to take on Rensselaer at 8 p.m.
