RIT men's basketball loses 105-86 at Rensselaer

TROY, NY -- The RIT (4-8, 0-3 Liberty League) men's basketball team was defeated 105-86 by Rensselaer in Liberty League action from Troy Friday evening.

RIT shot 52 percent from the floor on 33-of-64 shooting. The Tigers were 6-of-16 from behind the arc and 14-of-23 from the foul line. Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers) led RIT with 16 points. #J.P. Reagan# scored 14 points, while Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West) added 15 points. Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South) finished with 10.

The Tigers jumped out to a 10-5 lead early on a layup by Reagan at 15:47 of the half. Bob Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia)'s jumper with 13:50 to play gave RIT their largest lead of the half at 17-11.

Dobson's layup with 8:26 to play in the half gave RIT a 24-21 lead. The Engineers would outscore the Tigers 28-15 over the final 8:26 to lead by 10 at the half. Tyler Gendron led RPI with 12 first-half points.

Rensselaer kept the momentum in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 56-47 in the second half. The Engineers made 34-of-74 field goals from the floor, including 15-of-39 from behind the arc. Brendan Farley led RPI with 22 points.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 12 for a 4 pm tip-off at Skidmore College.
