ROCHESTER, NY - Shivaun Siegl returns to RIT to serve as an assistant coach for the university's Division I women's hockey program, head coach #Scott McDonald# announced on Friday. Siegl previously served as an assistant at RIT in 2007-08 and will assist McDonald in all aspects of the program, including on and off ice preparation, video analysis, scouting, and recruiting.

Before arriving back at RIT, Siegl spent the last three seasons as the primary assistant coach at Niagara University. At Niagara, Siegl was in charge of the goaltenders and was involved in all facets of recruiting, video analysis, strength and conditioning, academics, community service, and SAAC (Student Athletic Advisory Committee). 

“We are really excited to add Shivaun to our coaching staff,” said McDonald, who is 135-22-10 entering his seventh season behind the bench at RIT. “She has great experience coaching and recruiting at the Division I level and gives us a great chance to improve our team right away.”

For the last four years, Siegl has served as a goaltending coach at the United States Hockey Development Program camps, held in Rochester, Lake Placid, N.Y., and St. Cloud, Minn. In 2010, Siegl was an assistant coach on McDonald's staff that won gold at the Empire State Games. 

In Siegl's one season at RIT, she helped lead the Tigers to a 19-7-0 mark and a 13-3-0 record in the squad's first season in the ECAC West conference. From there, Siegl moved on to Division I, spending the 2008-09 season as an assistant coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of the ECAC, working with the goaltenders, video analysis, and recruiting.

“Shivaun's experience working with the U.S. National Development Program will help our recruiting range grow,” said McDonald.

Siegl, a native of Livonia, N.Y., played college hockey at Division I powerhouse Mercyhurst University from 2002-2005 then transferred to the University of Vermont and played two seasons for the Catamounts. During her three seasons at Mercyhurst, she helped lead the Lakers to three College Hockey America Championships. While at Vermont, Siegl played in 27 games over two seasons. In 2005-06, Siegl recorded a 2.93 goals against average and .895 save percentage.

In the classroom, Siegl earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Vermont in 2007. She was a member of the Hockey East All-Scholastic Team. Siegl, a 2002 graduate of Livonia High School, also played varsity tennis. She was a member of the Syracuse Stars travel team, which won the New York State and National Tournaments in 2001 and 2002. She also played in the Empire State Games on the Western team from 1999-2001.

Siegl currently resides in Livonia.
