Women's lacrosse drops a close game at Fredonia State

FREDONIA, NY -- The RIT (1-2) women's lacrosse fell to 1-2 on the season with a 17-10 loss at SUNY Fredonia (4-2) on Saturday afternoon. 

Junior #Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led RIT with four points on three goals and an assist. (Landisville, PA/Hempfield)Becca Lampson# added three goals, while freshman Marlee Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) and #Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# each had a pair of goals.

#Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# took the loss in net for the Tigers allowing 17 goals and making seven saves. Casey Chiesa picked up the win allowing 10 goals and making 13 saves.

Fredonia State held a 33-25 shot advantage, and won the ground ball battle 23-18. The Tigers were 8-of-9 on clearing attempts and went 1-for-3 on free position opportunities.

RIT fell behind 7-1 early in the first half. Goals by Vakiener and Lampson pulled RIT to within four goals at 7-3.

Trailing 10-3, the Tigers rattled off four straight goals to close out the first half, trailing 10-7 at the break. Lampson had two of RIT's four goals in that stretch, tallying the last two goals of the half.

RIT's offense went silent in the second half, scoring just three times. Caruso scored two of RIT's three goals in the second half.

The Tigers look to get back on track when they host The College at Brockport on Wednesday, March 21 at 4 pm on RIT's Turf Field.
