ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team defeated Keuka College 61-50 in the title game of the 28th Annual Harold J. Brodie Tournament on the floor of Clark Gym on Saturday afternoon. RIT's
Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers) was named the tournament's MVP scoring 10 points in the title game.
Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South), who was named to the All-Tournament team, led RIT with 12 points and had three rebounds. Mike D'Amico,
Ronnie Canestro (Buffalo, NY/Nichols School) and
Casey Bobelis (Brandenton, FL/Braden River) each scored nine points for the Tigers who shot 40.4 percent from the floor.
The Tigers were 5-of-23 from behind the arc and made 10-of-12 free throws.
The Tigers led by 10 points at the half, and built their lead to 19 points in the second half. RIT held a slight 35-34 rebounding edge and scored 12 points off of 17 Keuka turnovers.
Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West)'s bucket with 5:54 to play in the second half gave RIT a 58-59 lead, their largest of the game. Dobson finished with six points and four rebounds.
Trevor Healey scored 14 points for Keuka who shot 38.8 percent from the floor in the title game. Adam Sparks tallied nine points for the Storm, while Tuggles scored eight.
The storm were 4-of-14 from behind the arc and were 8-of-15 from the foul line.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 2 when they face #10 University of Rochester in a rematch of a first round Wendy's College Classic game which the Yellowjackets won.
