RIT men's basketball snaps skid with 78-63 win over Baptist Bible College

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (2-4) men's basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 78-63 win over Baptist Bible College (Pa.) in non-league action from Clark Gym on Tuesday night.

RIT jumped out to a 17-3 lead early in the first half, led by as many as 17 points and were up 38-27 at the break. RIT shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the first half on 14-of-30 shooting, and were 8-of-12 from behind the arc.

Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers) scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the first half to lead the Tigers. Freshman #J.P. Reagan# added eight points, scoring the first eight points of the half for RIT.

The Tigers opened the lead up in the second half, leading by as many as 24. The Tigers shot 53.6 percent from the floor in the second half, and 50 percent for the game.

Reagan scored a career-high 11 points, grabbing five rebounds. Balenton finished with 19 points, while Ronnie Canestro (Buffalo, NY/Nichols School) scored nine points off the bench on 3-of-4 shooting from behind the arc. Freshman Eric Seaberry (Lyndhurst, OH/Charles F. Brush) and Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South) each had seven points.

Luke Peterson led the Defenders with 20 points. Dan Dodd added 14 points, while Jordan Greve scored 12. Baptist Bible College shot 49.1 percent from the floor and were 2-of-15 from behind the arc.

RIT held a 33-27 rebounding edge and scored 15 points off of 18 Defenders turnovers.

RIT Head Coach Bob McVean is now just five wins away from becoming the 32nd coach in Division III history to record 500 for his career.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Dec. 14 when the Tigers host D'Youville College in game two of the Harold J. Brodie Tournament at 8 p.m. That game wwill be preceded by Keuka College vs. Manhattanville College at 6 p.m.
