GENESEO, NY -- The RIT (1-2) men's basketball team was defeated by The College at Brockport (1-2) 70-52 of their Wendy's College Classic consolation round game on Friday night on the campus of SUNY Geneseo.
The Tigers trailed 10-0 early in the first half, and 14-2 at the 16:04 mark of the first half, starting the half missing their first three shots and turning the ball over twice.
RIT got a lift off the bench by junior co-captain
Brendan Reinert (Wheatfield, NY/Starpoint) who came in and scored a team-high six first-half points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor and 2-for-2 from the foul line.
The Tigers got to within three of the Golden Eagles three times late in the opening half, the first coming with 4:43 to play on a pair of free throws by
Dave Lynch (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse Academy) that capped off a 7-0 run by the Tigers.
RIT shot 40 percent from the floor in the first half on 10-of-25 shooting. The Tigers were 2-of-3 from behind the arc. and went 8-for-13 from the foul line. RIT committed 10 turnovers and had 20 rebounds.
The Tigers closed to within three points early in the second half on a layup by
Nick Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West), cutting Brockport's lead to 37-34 with 17:03 remaining in the second half.
Brockport opened the game up with a 14-2 run, taking a 15-point lead with 11:19 to play on a bucket by Mike Gallagher giving the Golden Eagles a 51-36 lead.
The Golden Eagles would lead by as many as 19 points in the second half.
Casey Bobelis (Brandenton, FL/Braden River) led RIT with none points.
Bob Schuster (Livonia, NY/Livonia) finished with three points, eight rebounds and two assists fro the Tigers who will play in the seventh place game on Saturday, Dece. 1 at 1 pm on the campus of Roberts Wesleyan College.
