RIT men's basketball opens season with 71-57 win at Keuka College

KEUKA PARK, NY -- The RIT (1-0) men's basketball team opened the 2012-13 campaign with a 71-57 win at Keuka College (0-3) in non-conference game from Keuka Park on Tuesday evening. The Tigers used a big second half, outscoring the Storm 47-30.

Eric Seaberry (Lyndhurst, OH/Charles F. Brush) and Mike D'Amico each had 10 points for the Tigers who shot 50% from the floor, including 68% in the second half.

Seaberry's two straight three-pointers midway through the first half, gave RIT their lone lead of the half. The Tigers committed eight turnovers, while forcing the Storm into eight turnovers, but trailed 27-24 at the break.

RIT opened the second half with an 18-6 run, taking a 42-31 lead on a bucket by Jameel Balenton (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers). He scored seven of RIT's 18 points to open the second half to pace the Tigers.

Later in the half, with RIT leading 54-46, Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South) spun towards the base line, scooped a shot up and in giving RIT its' then largest lead of the game at 56-46. Travis finished with six points.

Keuka came back, cutting the score to six points, when Trevor Healey committed a foul underneath on NIck Dobson (Corning, NY/Corning West). Healey disputed the call and was called for the technical foul.

Desmond Scott (Murphy, TX/Plano East) made both of his free throws, followed by Dobson, who made 1-of-2 to extend the lead to nine points and putting the game out of reach.

Balenton led RIT with 12 points, including 10 in the second half.

Scott added nine points, while Freshman Kamron Davis (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) has a tremendous debut, scoring nine points and to go along with a team-high 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.

The Tigers are off until Wednesday, Nov. 28 when they begin competition in the 45th Annual Wendy's College Classic, the nation's longest running in-season Division III Tournament. RIT will find who and when they play at the Wendy's College Classic Banquet on Sunday, Nov. 25.
