ROCHESTER, NY -- For the first time in 17 years, the RIT (11-5-1) women's soccer team defeated No. 4 Ithaca College 1-0 at Tiger Stadium on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. The win is the first  over the Bombers since the 1995 season and hands Ithaca it's first loss of the season.

RIT had nine shots to 16 for the Bombers. The Tigers had one corner kick to seven for Ithaca.

Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) got the win in net for RIT, making seven saves picking up her sixth shut out of the season.

Both teams generated good chances in the first half. Murray stopped all three shots she faced, including an amazing diving save with 7:50 to play off a shot from Ellyn Grant-Keane.

Martinez scored in the 39th minute off an assist from Chelsea Shoemaker (Rochester, NY/Aquinas). She sent a cross into the Ithaca box from 25 yards out. Martinez headed the ball which bounced up and over the outstretched hands of Ithaca keeper Becca Salant and into the net for a 1-0 RIT lead.

Ithaca put the pressure on RIT's defense in the second half, firing nine shots. The Tigers defense held strong, maintaining composure and getting a little help from the cross-bar.

Alex Liese had a great chance late in regulation, but her shot wrang off the cross bar and out of play, keeping a one-goal lead for the Tigers.

With time running out, Jackie Rodabaugh had a shot from the penalty spot, but Murray came out and challenged the shot, forcing Rodabaugh's to fire the ball over the net and out of harms way.

RIT takes the momentum from today into Wednesday's Liberty League Semifinals where the Tigers will face William Smith on October 31 at 2:30 pm in Geneva, New York.
