The RIT men's basketball team (4-5) fell to the University of Rochester (9-2) 76-62 on Tuesday night at the Clark Gym.
Justin Heisig (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) led the Tigers with 16 points, while Nate Novosel and Tyler Seidman led the way for the Yellowjackets with 20 each.
Rochester got the scoring started and never looked back. The Tigers battled their way to within six with just under five to play in the first half, but a 13-6 run by the Yellowjackets to end the period left RIT down 41-28 at the break.
Eric Travis (Chicago,IL/Hinsdale South) scored four points early in the second half, sparking an 8-0 run to bring the Tigers within five. Travis finished the game with 11 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, his first double-double of the season. Rochester responded with a 15-8 run of its own, taking a 15 point lead.
Both
Brendan Harder (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and
Gabe Nicasio (Essex Junction, VT/Essex) chipped in eight points off the bench for the Tigers, while
Kurt Fenderbosch (Myrtle Beach, SC/Socastee) added five points and two steals.
RIT shot 48.3 percent (28-58) from the field, while Rochester finished at 50 percent (25-50). The Yellowjackets shot 17-for-19 from the charity stripe, while the Tigers were just 3-for-5.
RIT was outrebounded by Rochester 33-26.
