ROCHESTER, NY –
Freshman Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored with 3:20 left in overtime to lift the RIT men's soccer team (4-3-1, 1-0-0 Liberty League) to a 1-0 win over No. 18 Union (7-1-0, 0-1-0 Liberty League) in the Liberty League opener for both teams on a sunny Saturday afternoon at RIT Field. The loss snapped Union's seven-game winning streak to start the season.

David Vogt (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) crossed a pass into the box that Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius) headed off the left post. Bloshkin was right there to grab the rebound and slam the shot into the open goal for his second tally of the season.

RIT out-shot Union, 21-13. Union goaltender Adam Marguiles was tremendous in defeat, stopping 11 shots. Tiger goaltender Sean Conway (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) picked up his third solo shutout of the season, finishing with four saves. He lowered his goals against average to 0.87 this season.

Union had a great chance in the ninth minute, as Nick Vozzella found himself open to the right of the RIT net, but slipped on his shot attempt, leading to an easy save for Conway.

Moments later, Marguiles had to come up with a pair of big saves, stopping Vogt on a free kick from just outside the box, then sprawled out to rob Donnie Maguire (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) in close on the ensuing corner kick.

Marguiles made eight saves in the first half, as the Tigers outshot Union, 13-6 over the first 45 minutes of play.

In the 65th minute, Vogt had a golden chance of a set piece, as he slipped a shot from in close past Marguiles, but a Union defender dove to keep the ball from going into the net.

A minute later, Sebastian Jansen made a spin move and had a good chance from the top of the box, but RIT defender Jimmy Forbes (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) blocked the shot.

With just under two minutes left, Andy Fleckenstein (Farmington, NY/Victor) had a great chance off a corner, but had the attempt blocked by a Union defender.

Today's game was the first of three the Tigers will play against teams currently ranked in the NSCAA Division III top-25 poll. RIT will play No. 1 St. Lawrence on Oct. 22 and No. 9 Hobart a week later.

RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools 11-6-0.  Today marked RIT's first game in the Liberty League.  RIT had been a member of the Empire 8 before making the switch for this season.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, as they travel east on I-90 to face Liberty League foe Rensselaer at 4 p.m.
