ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's tennis team (1-0, 1-0 Empire 8) began the 2010 season with a 5-4 win over Stevens on Saturday afternoon. Senior Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) and freshman Maite Vera (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/Mayor San Loranzo) helped the Tigers to the win.

Berg won her first singles match 6-0, 6-0 over Lisa Tessitore and teamed with Vera to win at first doubles 8-3 over Allyson Kingman and Nicole Portner. Vera defeated Kendra Appleheimer 6-2, 6-1 at second singles.

Freshman Brooke Brindle (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) defeated Nicole Portman in their fourth singles match 6-1, 7-5. Senior Lindsey Gibson (Glastonbury, CT/Mercy) sealed the win for the Tigers with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lexie Handle.

The Tigers will host SUNY Brockport on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm on RIT Courts.
