Klassen scores two goals in convincing win for Tigers

ROCHESTER, NY – The fourth ranked RIT women's hockey team completed the sweep, beating SUNY Cortland (4-17-1, 3-12-1 ECAC) 6-1 on Saturday evening. The win improves RIT to 16-4-3 overall and 11-3-2 in the ECAC West. Junior #Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors)# had two goals and an assist for RIT.

The Tigers dominated every facet, out shooting the Red Dragons 51-11. RIT went 2-for-7 on the power play while holding Cortland to one goal in seven power play attempts.

Melissa Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy) had a goal and an assist and Kelly Prom and #Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects) each had a pair of assists. Freshmen (Tinley Park, IL)Krstina Moss and Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury)# each had a goal.

Carly King picked up the win for RIT. She allowed one goal and made 10 saves improving to 7-2-1 on the season.

RIT led 2-0 after the first period, out shooting the Red Dragons 19-2. #Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# and Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors) were the Tigers' goal scorers.

Dagg scored on a pass from Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects) at 6:36 of the first. Mazzetta drove to the net and spotted a wide open Dagg and she fired a one-timer low past Cortland goalkeeper Sarah Sitcov. It was Dagg's 14th tally of the season.

Klassen scored an unassisted goal at 8:45 of the first to give RIT a 2-0 lead. It was Klassen's sixth goal of the season.

RIT scored three more goals in the second period to take a 5-0 lead. Missy Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy), Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and Kristina Moss (Webster, NY/Buffalo Bisons) each lit the lamp for the Tigers. RIT fired 16 shots in the second and went 2-for-3 on the power play.

Hall scored at 3:23 on assists from Prom and Klassen. Schlattman tallied a power play goal at 8:13 on assists from Mazzetta and #Danielle Read (Brantford, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)#, and Moss scored another power play goal at 13:22 on assists from #Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder) and Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/PSA Chaos)#.

Klassen scored her second of the game and seventh of the season at 17:52 of the third on assists from Hall and Prom.

Cortland got their goal at 17:52 on a power play tally from Cara Latchum. Ashley Meyer had the assist on the play.

RIT finishes the regular season next weekend with a two-game series at Buffalo State. Friday's game faces off at 4 pm and Saturday's gets underway at 7 pm.
