NORTHFIELD, VT -- Senior forward #
Katie Stack (Batavia, NY/Rochester Edge)# scored her 100th career point, scoring twice as RIT defeated 2010 Division III national runner up Norwich University 3-1 in the season opener for both teams on Friday night. Stack scored once in the second and once in the third to become the eighth player in RIT women's hockey history to score 100 career points. She now has 63 career goals and 37 assists in 80 games.
After a scoreless first period, Stack gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead at 15:13 of the second on a power play goal. Freshman #
Kourtney Kunichika (Fullerton, CA/LA Selects) and senior (Pittsburgh, PA/Mountour)Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# had the assists on the play.
Senior #
Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects)# scored an unassisted goal at 16:45 of the second period to give RIT a 2-0 lead. Mazzetta's goal proved to be the game-winning goal.
Early in the third, Norwich's Sophie Leclerc cut the RIT lead in half with an even-strength goal at 2:19. Julie Fortier and Amanda Wilks had the assists on the goal.
Stack put the game away with her second of the game at 15:42 of the third, spinning around in front to tally her 100th point. #
Erin Zach (Elmira, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) and
Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects)# had the assists on Stack's second power play tally of the game.
Freshman #
Laura Chamberlain (Norco, CA/LA Selects)# had solid game in net for the Tigers, making 30 saves and allowing one goal in her collegiate debut.
Shots were even at 31-31. RIT was 2-for-5 with the man advantage, while Norwich finished 1-for-5.
RIT will face New England College tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm in game two of the Cade Classic.
