ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team (9-2-3, 4-1-2 ECAC West), ranked fourth in the nation, defeated SUNY Oswego (5-7-0, 3-4-0), 2-0 at Ritter Arena on Friday evening.
#
Missy Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy) and
Shireen Irani (Calgary, Alberta/PSA Chaos)# scored goals for the Tigers, who have won two straight games.
Both teams struggled mightily on the power-play. The Tigers, who entered the game with the nation's top power-play, were 0-for-11. SUNY Oswego was 0-for-10.
RIT out-shot the Lakers, 51-8. Emi Williams made 50 saves in defeat for Oswego. #
Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# was not tested much for the Tigers, stopping all eight shots she faced for her second straight shutout, and third of the year.
Neither team was able to break through in the opening period. The first 10 minutes was played mainly in the neutral zone, with RIT mustering just two shots.
The Tigers out-shot SUNY Oswego, 15-1 over the opening 20 minutes. Dagg had RIT's best two chances late in the period. While Oswego was on a power-play, Dagg burst in all alone on Williams, deked to the forehand, but lost the puck. Dagg then hit the crossbar with a shot from the slot.
Hall rang a wrist shot off the crossbar midway through the second period.
Hall then got the Tigers on the board with 2:59 left in the period, as she took advantage of a bad giveaway by the Oswego defense, was all alone in front, and backhanded a shot past Williams for her seventh goal of the season.
The Tigers out-shot Oswego 20-5 in the period to hold a 35-6 advantage after 40 minutes of play.

Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects)# was awarded a penalty shot with three minutes left in the regulation, when a Lakers defender closed her hand on the puck in the goal crease. Mazzetta came in on the penalty shot, tried to deke to the forehand, but was denied by Williams.
Irani put the game away with an empty netter in the final minute. Mazzetta assisted on the goal.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 15-6-0. Last season, RIT defeated the Lakers, 9-2 and 5-0 in Oswego. #
Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects)# scored five goals in the two meetings for RIT.
The same two teams meet once again on Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
