CANTON, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie at St. Lawrence University (4-1-2) on Saturday afternoon. With the tie the Tigers move their record to 0-3-3 on the season.
St. Lawrence held the edge in shots 34-10 but only had two corner kicks to RIT's one.
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was excellent in net for RIT, making 12 saves.
RIT took an early lead, scoring in the 13th minute.
Kendra Shelters (Lyons, NY/Lyons) took a nice touch pass from
Allyson Pisher (Holley, NY/Holley) and scored on a shot into the right side of the net, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The goal was Shelter's team-leading fourth of the season.
St. Lawrence tied the score at 1-1 just before the half. Rachelle Doucette found herself alone in the box after a flurry and put away her first goal of the season in the 44th minute to tie the score at 1-1. Shellie Brzoska had the assist on the play.
Neither team scored in the second half or in each of the overtime periods. RIT had just three shots in the second half and none in the overtime, while St. Lawrence had 14 second-half shots and four in the overtime.
RIT stays in the North Country for a non-conference game versus Clarkson University on Sunday, September 20. Kick-off is at 12 pm.
