Women's tennis earns first win of 2009 at Hartwick

The RIT women's tennis team (1-1, 1-1 Empire 8) earned its first victory of the 2009 season, rolling to a decisive, 7-2 win at Hartwick on Sunday afternoon.  The Tigers won five of six singles matches to claim the win.

Senior Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal), along with juniors Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham), Julie Burkett (McDonald, PA/West Allegheny), and sophomore Marie Revekant (Pittsford, NY/East Rochester) each were victorious in both singles and doubles.  Michele Caporali (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) also secured a win at singles.

Berg improved to 2-0 at first singles, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win over Betsy Breaznell.  She also teammed with Stanley to record an 8-5 win at first doubles.  Stanley picked up a 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 win at second singles.

The third doubles team of Burkett and Revekant were victorious by a score of 8-2.  Revekant and Burkett were also straight-set winners at fifth, and sixth singles, respectively.

Caporali picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win over Christina Sorrentino at third singles.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, as they travel to University of Rochester for a non-conference match against the Yellowjackets.  The match gets underway at 4 p.m.
