ROCHESTER, NY - Former RIT three-time national champion wrestler and current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) standout
Matt "The Hammer" Hamill will be signing autographs at Eastview Mall in Victor on Saturday, August 22, from 1-3 p.m.
Hamill, a 1999 graduate of RIT, won three National Championships in three different weight classes from 1997-99. He was a three-time All-American, a three-time New York State Champion, and a three-time RIT Invitational Champion. Hamill compiled a career record of 89-3 at RIT, with all three losses against Division I wrestlers. During his senior year, Hamill went the entire season without a loss. Hamill set the school record for pins in a season with 19 and career with 47. He was the 1998 National Deaf Athlete of the Year. In 1999, the Rochester Press Radio Club awarded Hamill the Male Collegiate Athlete of the Year.
In the octagon, Hamill is currently 8-2-0, having won his last two bouts. On March 7, 2009, he knocked out Mark Munoz in 3:53 at UFC 96.
In 2007, Hamill was inducted into the RIT Athletics Hall of Fame.
