UTICA, NY - The #5 RIT women's hockey team (15-2-2, 11-2-1 ECAC West) scored two first period goals and held on to defeat ECAC West foe Utica (9-8-2, 5-7-1 ECAC West) 2-1 at the Utica Memorial Auditorium on Sunday afternoon.
#Ali Hills (Honeoye Falls, NY)# (Honeoye Falls, NY) and
#Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# (St. George, Ontario) scored first period goals for the Tigers. Dagg tallied her 14th of the year in the final minute of the first period off an assist from
#Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Oakville, Ontario) which proved to be the game winner..
Utica cut the RIT lead to 2-1 with four minutes in the second period on a power-play goal by MacKenzie Roy.
RIT out-shot Utica 41-16. The Tigers were 1-for-4 with the man-advantage, while Utica was 1-for-6. Jillian Doherty was excellent in net for Utica, stopping 39 shots.
#Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# (Wentzville, MO) made 15 saves to improve to 5-0-0 for RIT in 2008-09.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two teams, 7-2-0.
The Tigers return home to face national powers Amherst and Middlebury next weekend.
