ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 72-61 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Sunday afternoon. RIT's #
Sharon Dennis (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)# set the school record for blocks in a game with 11 on the afternoon. She tallied a triple-double with 20 points, 18 rebounds and 11 blocks.
RIT led 33-22 at the half, shooting 44.8% from the floor. The Tigers closed out the half on a 23-5 run after being down by seven early in the half.
Dennis led the Tigers with eight points, 12 rebounds, five blocks and four steals. Freshman #
Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# chipped in nine points.
RIT broke the game open with a 10-1 run to start the second half and never looked back. The Tigers shot 50% from the floor in the second stanza on 13-of-26 shooting from the floor.
Dennis scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the second half. She also added six rebounds, six blocks and two steals.
Havens finished with 11 points, while senior co-captain
Danielle Furman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) added six points and six assists.
RIT is off until January 5 when they face Empire 8 rival Nazareth College. Game time is at 6 pm in Pittsford, New York.
