ROCHESTER, NY -- RIT senior
#Keltie Jones (Burlington, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Burlington, Ontario) scored 3:16 into overtime to give the #6 RIT women's hockey team a dramatic 2-1 win over #1 SUNY Plattsburgh in ECAC West action on Friday night in front of 1,133 fans at Ritter Arena.
Jones took a pass from
#Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# (St. George, ON) and fired a slap shot from the left point that beat Plattsburgh's goalie Danielle Beattie cleanly for the game-winner.
The win improves RIT to 13-1-2 overall and 9-1-1 in the ECAC West. The win also ups the Tigers unbeaten streak to 12 games.
Senior goaltender
#Sandra Grant (Abbotsford, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers)# (Abbotsford, BC) was outstanding in net for RIT. She finished with 28 saves allowing just one goal against her former team.
Dagg
gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with a partial breakaway at 13:11 of the second period.
Jones
hit a streaking Dagg who broke into the Plattsburgh zone. With a Cardinal defender draped all over her, she made a move to her backhand and roofed a shot over Beattie's shoulder for her 12th goal of the season.
Plattsburgh tied the score with a power play goal at 6:01 of the third. Ainsley Brien took a feed from Erika Shaubel and fired a wrist shot through a screen, beating Grant, who never saw the puck.
RIT held the momentum in the first period outshooting the Cardinals 8-5. Jones had a great chance late in the period on a short-handed break, but Beattie robbed her on the doorstep, keeping the game scoreless.
The Cardinals came back in the second period, outshooting the Tigers 10-8. Grant stood tall, stopping all 10 shots she faced.
Plattsburgh came out and fired the first 10 shots of the third period, tying the game on the power-play.
RIT outshot the Cardinals 30-29. The Tigers went 1-for-5 on the pwoer play and held Plattsburgh to 1-for-8 with the mam advantage.
Plattsburgh leads the all-time series, 4-2. RIT has won the last two meetings.
These same two teams will face-off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 pm at Ritter Arena.
