ROCHESTER, NY – The #6 RIT women's hockey team (12-1-2, 8-1-1 ECAC West) scored two goals in 21 seconds to open the scoring early in the first period and push their unbeaten streak to 11 games after easily upending visiting Chatham for the second straight day, (1-12-1, 1-7-0 ECAC West) 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Ritter Arena.
Sophomore forward #Nicole Scuteri (Rochester, NY/Rochester Edge)# (Rochester, NY) scored her first goal of the season and added an assist for RIT. She was named the game's first star. #Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# (St. George, Ontario) and #Amanda Klassen (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Warner Warriors)# (Winnipeg, Manitoba) also added a goal and an assist.
#Erica Owczarczak (West Seneca, NY/Buffalo Bisons)# (West Seneca, NY), #Maegan Geypens (Oshawa, Ontario/Durham Lightning)# (Oshawa, Ontario) and #Lindsay Littman (Eaglesham, Alberta/Warner Warriors)# (Eaglesham, Alberta) also scored for the Tigers, who defeated Chatham 6-0 on Saturday. Littman's goal was her first of the season.
Owczarczak and Scuteri scored 21 seconds apart in the first period to put RIT up 2-0.
RIT out-shot Chatham 56-19, including 26-4 in the third period. Tiger goaltender #Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# (Wentzville, MO) stopped all 18-of-19 shots for her fourth win of the season. Brenn Scott made 50 saves in defeat for Chatham.
Sara Forbes scored Chatham's only goal, sliding a rebound off a shot from Ashley Reid home at the side of the net late in the first period.
The Tigers finished 2-for-8 with the man-advantage, while holding Chatham scoreless on all five of their power-play attempts.
RIT, who entered this weekend as the highest scoring team in the nation, improved on that total. The Tigers now have 82 goals in 15 games (5.47 per game).
The Tigers remain in first place in the ECAC West conference with 17 points.
RIT has out-scored its foes 65-19 during its 11-game unbeaten streak (9-0-2).RIT is 4-0-0 all-time against the Cougars. Last season, RIT fired 156 shots on goal in the two victories over Chatham.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, January 23, as they host two-time defending NCAA Champion SUNY Plattsburgh in a key ECAC West match-up at Ritter Arena. That contest begins at 7:05 p.m.
