ROCHESTER, NY -- RIT guard
Nate Korinchak's (Strongsville, OH) half-court shot at the buzzer gave the RIT men's basketball team an 87-84 win over twelfth ranked and previously unbeaten Ithaca College (11-1, 3-1 E8) on Sunday afternoon. The win was the first win over a ranked opponent since defeating Stevens on Jan. 4, 2008.
Ithaca's Sean Burton tied the score with two free throws with nine seconds remaning in regulation. On the ensuing inbounds
Adam Sweet (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY) tipped the loose ball to Korinchak who gathered and fired a shot from just over half court that went in as the buzzer sounded giving the Tigers their eighth win of the season.
RIT led 77-67 with 3:07 to play but the Bombers went on a 17-7 run over the final 3:06, tying the score on Burton's free throws.
Burton finished with a game-high 28 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Brendan Rogers added 18 points for the Bombers.
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) led RIT with his 10th double-double in 11 games, scoring 16 points and grabbing a game-high 23 rebounds.
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service) (Anchorage, AK/Service) added a career-high 18 points, including 6-for-6 from the foul line. He dished out three asissts and grabbed four rebounds.
Scott young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) and Korinchak each scored 13 points. Korinchak dished out four assists and grabbed four rebounds, while Young grabbed five boards.
RIT led 43-39 at the half on a buzzer-beater from
Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service). He drained a three-pointer as time expired to give the Tigers a four-point edge.
The Tigers, winners of four in a row, shot 46.3% from the floor on 31-for-67 shooting. RIT was 7-for-14 from three-point land and went 18-for-27 from the foul line. RIT forced Ithace into 13 turnovers, getting 10 steals.
Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY/Corning East) led the Tigers with three steals.
RIT will participate in the JP Morgan Chase Scholarship Tournament this next week. The Tigers will play on Wednesday evening at either SUNY Brockport or Nazareth.
