ROCHESTER, NY – Lauren Farver's goal in the 81st minute snapped a 1-1 tie and lifted #23 Hamilton College (1-0-0) to a 2-1 win over the RIT women's soccer team (0-2-1) on a cool, cloudy Saturday afternoon at RIT Field.
Farver received a long pass from Maria Treacy, sped in on the left side and blasted a shot past RIT goalkeeper Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) into the right side of the goal. Farver's goal came just 42 seconds after Erica Main (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) tied the game for RIT.
Erica Dressler put Hamilton on the board in the 49th minute, as she took a long breakaway pass from Katherine Lyons and slid a shot inside the left post from 10-yards out.
RIT nearly broke through moments earlier, as a corner kick by Jennifer Wilkens (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) eluded Hamilton goalkeeper Kate Fowler. The ball bounced high and eluded the two Tigers at the left side of the Hamilton net.
The Tigers tied the game in the 80th minute, as Main came in alone and ripped a shot that deflected off Fowler and in the net. Kristen Denninger (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy) (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy) assisted on the goal, as her long pass from just past midfield sprung Main.
Fowler made four saves to earn the shut-out for Hamilton, who finished 16-2-2 and made the NCAA Division III Tournament quarterfinals in 2007. Conti stopped six shots for RIT.
Hamilton out-shot RIT, 15-10 in the contest.
Good chances were few and far between for both teams during the opening 45 minutes. Dressler had Hamilton's best chance with 12 seconds left in the half, as she was all alone in front of the RIT net. Fortunately for RIT, Conti had the angle played perfectly and smothered the shot attempt.
Hamilton out-shot RIT 9-6 in the first half. Nearly all of the shots for both teams came from at least 20-yards out.
The Continentals now lead the all-time series between the two schools, 6-4-1.
The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to play Buffalo State at 4 p.m..
