ITHACA, NY - The RIT volleyball team (1-5) picked up its first win of the 2008 season on Friday evening, downing St. John Fisher, 26-24, 25-20, 25-22 at the Ithaca Invitational. Earlier in the day, the Tigers fell to Union in three games, 25-14, 25-18, 25-13.
In the opener against Union, junior middle hitter
Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) recorded a team-high nine kills.
Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) led the way with 24 assists and six digs.
Petko slammed 13 kills in the win over St. John Fisher. Freshman
Laura Mooney (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) (Petaluma, CA/Petaluma) recorded nine blocks to go along with seven kills. Boxler dished out 25 assists to go along with nine digs and four service aces. Junior
Jen Hays (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) also recorded four aces.
The Tigers conclude play in the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday by playing the SUNY Geneseo at 9:30 a.m. If RIT wins that match, they will play for fifth-place at 4 p.m. If RIT falls to Geneseo, they will play in the seventh-place match at 2 p.m.
