ONEONTA, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team braved the elements on Sunday, defeating Hartwick College 1-0 on a wet and rainy field in Oneonta, New York. The win snaps a two-game losing streak by the Tigers who even their record at 4-4-1 overall and are now 2-1-0 in the Empire 8.
The lone goal of the game could have been attributed to the inclement weather. in the 18th minute
Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY) sent a ball in off a free kick. The Hartwick goalie made the initial save, but the ball slipped through her hands.
Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) was in the right place at the right time and headed the loose ball into the net.
The Tigers defense was stout, holding the Hawks scoreless.
Ashley Valenti (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) got the start in net and the freshman keeper posted her second straight win and second consecutive shut-out, making four saves.
Hartwick held a slight advantage in shots, out-shooting RIT 9-7. The Hawks also held the corner-kick advantage, taking seven corners to just two for the Tigers.
The Tigers will try to make it two in a row on Wednesday, October 1 when they face Keuka College. Kick-off is a t 4 pm in Keuka Park, New York
