ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's soccer team got the Empire 8 portion of the schedule off on the right foot with a 2-0 win over Alfred University (0-10-0, 0-1-0 E8) on Saturday afternoon. The win is the second straight for the Tigers who improve to 3-5-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the Empire 8.
The Tigers dominated in all facets of the game, out-shooting the Saxons 21-3 and taking seven corner kicks to Alfred's two.
Dan Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatius) (Strongeville, OH/St. Ignatius) gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute off a free kick.
David Vogt (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) crossed a ball into the box off of a free kick that went right to Holowaty who one-timed it into the net for his third goal of the season.
Todd Gaulocher (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) (Greenwich, CT) made it 2-0 in the 68th minute. He took a cross from
Casey Rathbone (Austin, TX/Round Rock) (Austin Texas, Round Rock), gathered the ball, and fired a well-placed shot into the lower right corner.
RIT's defense was stout, allowing just two shots.
Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) picked up the win for RIT, making two saves.
The Tigers next game is on Tuesday, September 30 when they host 14th ranked University of Rochester. Game time is 4 pm on RIT Field.
