ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's tennis team clinched an Empire 8 playoff berth with a win over Elmira College on Tuesday, defeating the Soaring Eagles 9-0. This improves RIT's overall record to 6-2, with a 6-1 record in the Empire 8 conference.

Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) took her singles match 6-0, 6-0 and teamed with senior
Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) in doubles, defeating their opponents 8-1 and improving their record to 7-1. Junior
Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal) and senior
Kseniya Klyachko (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) took their first win at second doubles 8-0, while seniors
Joanna Cash (Rochester, NY/Brighton) (Rochester, NY/Brighton) and
Sara Paduano (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) picked up an easy victory at third doubles, 8-1.
The Tigers had their third straight shut-out in singles. Francisco garnered a 6-2, 6-0 victory at second singles, with Stanley following, 6-1, 6-0 at third singles. Sophomore
Michele Caporali (Endicott/Union Endicott) (Endicott, NY/Union Endicott) re-entered the line-up after an injury and earned a win at fourth singles, 6-0, 6-1. Cash finished strong at fifth singles, with a 6-2, 6-1 win, followed by Paduano at sixth singles, defeating her opponent 6-4, 6-1.
The Tigers take on SUNY Geneseo in a non-conference match this Thursday on the RIT courts. The match starts at 4 p.m.
