Volleyball Pulls Out Five-Set Victory Over University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY --
The RIT women's volleyball team (7-6) won its seventh match in the last eight, outlasting host University of Rochester (7-8) in five sets at The Palestra on Tuesday evening.  RIT lost the first set 25-20, but rallied to win the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-12,  Rochester won the fourth set 25-20 and led 3-0 and 8-6 in the fifth set.  RIT scored eight of the next nine points to draw away for the victory.

With RIT trailing 8-6 in the deciding fifth set, Rochester a made a pair of hitting errors, allowing the Tigers to tie the set at 8.  Rochester went up 9-8, but the Tigers scored the next six points, punctuated by a kill from senior setter Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica).  With RIT up 14-12,  Ashlie Baker (Northridge, UT/Northridge) (Northridge, UT/Northridge) slammed a ball that caused an error by Rochester to end the match.

 Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) recorded a team-best 12 kills and three service aces.  Dani Liesman (Ridgecrest, CA/Burroughs) (Ridgecrest, CA/Burroughs) recorded a career-best 24 digs along with nine kills.

Boxler had 41 assists, while senior Heidi Little (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) (Glenville, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added eight kills.

Kate Lewis led Rochester with 36 assists.

RIT Head Coach Roger Worsley won his 199th career match at the helm of the Tigers.  He will go for number 200 this weekend at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.
