Women's Tennis Improves to 2-0 With Close Win Over St. John Fisher

The RIT women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in 2008, after defeating St. John Fisher (1-2, 0-2 Empire 8) 5-4 on Thursday.  The match started at St. John Fisher, but finished down the road at Nazareth, after darkness fell. 

Sophomore Amanda Berg (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) (Mendham, NJ/Mendham) moved to 2-0 in both singles and doubles.  She won at first singles, 6-0, 6-1 and paired with Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) to win at first doubles, 8-2.

The third doubles pair of Sara Paduano (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and Kseniya Klyachko (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) picked up an 8-4 win.

Paduano earned RIT's decisive point, picking up a 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at sixth singles to put RIT up 5-3.  Junior Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal) garnered a 6-2, 6-2 victory at third singles.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, as they host defending Empire 8 champion Ithaca in a conference match starting at 1 p.m.
