ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT women's soccer team scored two goals in five minutes midway through the first half en route on to a 2-1 win over Buffalo State on Wednesday afternoon.
Alyssa Barnes (East Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) (E. Hempstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) had the assists on both Tigers goals as RIT recorded its first win of the season.
Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) and
Lauren Tracy (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) each tallied a goal.
It didnt look good for RIT early on as the Bengals took a 1-0 lead inside the first two minutes. Mindy Wendt scored off of a cross from Barb Kiliszek 1:59 into the contest giving the Bengals a one-goal lead.
Traversi tied the score at 1-1 on her second goal of the season. Barnes sent a cross in from the left flank in the 19th minute that Traversi ran onto and re-directed into the net with a header.
In the 24th minute, Tracy gave RIT a 2-1 lead on her first goal of the season. This time Barnes sent a ball into the area from the right flank that Tracy de-directed into the net. It was Tracy's first collegiate goal.
Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) took care of the rest for RIT, making six saves in the first half and picking up her first win of the season. The Tigers defense allowed six shots in the second half but none that made it on net.
RIT, now 1-2-1 on the season, will host Clarkson University on Saturday, September 13 at 2 p.m. at RIT Field.
