ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT softball team (8-10, 4-2 Empire 8) extended its winning streak to four games after sweeping Empire 8 rival Elmira (4-4, 0-4 Empire 8) in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.  The Tigers won game one, 8-0 in five innings and took the nightcap, 1-0.

The Tigers tied a season-high with 13 hits in game one.  Senior Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) got the Tigers on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a bases-loaded single that drove in a pair of runs.  It came right after Elmira squandered a golden opportunity in the top of the inning, unable to score with the bases loaded and no outs.

RIT came on with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth to go up 6-0.  Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) ripped a bases-loaded double off the right field fence to drive in a pair of runs.  Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) followed with a two-run single to right.  McPherson beat throw home with an outstanding head-first slide around the tag.

Freshman hurler Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY/Alden) threw a two-hit, complete-game shutout, her second in the last two days.

Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.  Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy)  and Allison Ingalls (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) each had two hits and scored twice in the win.

In game two, the Tigers drew first blood in the top of the fifth inning, as Ingalls doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning and scored on a botched pick-off attempt, as the Elmira catcher overthrew the covering centerfielder trying to sneak behind Ingalls at second base.  Ingalls was 2-for-3

That was all the Tigers needed, as Cole did the rest, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings of relief.  She struck out the last four Elmira batters of the game.  Elmira's lone hit was a clean single by Katrina Katen just past the diving attempt by Tiger shortstop McPherson to lead off the fourth inning.

Morehouse started for RIT on the mound and did not allow a hit in 1 1/3 innings of work.  Morehouse also was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Stephany Fontiell pitched well for Elmira, allowing just six hits and an unearned run the complete-game effort.

Today's games completed a stretch where RIT played eight games in five days.  RIT went 4-4 during that stretch.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, as they host Buffalo State in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
