ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball team dropped a pair of games to Rensselaer on Monday afternoon in non-conference action at RIT Field. The Red Hawks took game one 5-1 and won game two 6-3. The losses drops RIT to 16-18 on the season, while Rensselaer improves to 23-7 on the season.
In game one Rensselaer took an early lead but the Tigers tied the score in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey). She drove in
Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY) who led off the inning with a double. However, Morehouse took the loss, going all seven innings allowing five runs on nine hits. She struck out one and walked one.
The Red Hawks scored two runs in the sixth and two in the seventh to put the game away. Jen Bach went 3-for-4 for the Red Hawks, driving in three runs, including a two-run home run. Felicia Bua picked up the win going seven innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out five.
In game two Rensselaer jumped out to a 3-0 in the top of the first inning, putting together three straight hits.
RIT responded with a run in the bottom of the first and a run in the third to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Red Hawks were threatening in the top of the fourth, loading the bases with one out, but Morehouse bailed herself out of trouble, keeping Rensselaer to one run in the inning.
Rensselaer tacked on two runs in the sixth inning on a two-run home run by Jen Bach to put the game away.
Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA),
Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) and
Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) each had two hits for the Tigers. Sniezek, Morehouse and
Allison Ingalls (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) also had RBI.
Morehouse took the loss in game two allowing six runs in seven innings on 14 hits. She struck out one and walked two.
The Tigers will host SUNY Morrisville on Thursday, April 24 beginning at 4 pm on RIT Field.
