Softball Extends Winning Streak to Four With Sweep of Medaille

The RIT softball team moved its record back to .500 at 13-13 and extended its winning streak to four games after sweeping Medaille College by scores of 5-3 and 7-2 on Monday afternoon.  RIT recorded 19 hits in the two games and blasted five home runs in the sweep.

RIT trailed 1-0 in game one, before scoring a run in the fourth to tie the contest.  The Tigers then scored a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings to build an insurmountable cushion.  In game two, RIT rocketed out of the gates, scoring three times in the first and four more in the seventh to take a 7-0 lead.

Freshman first baseman/pitcher Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY/Alden) hit a home run in each of the contests.  She hit a two-run shot in game one and a solo blast in game two.  She also picked up a win on the mound in game one, allowing just six hits in the complete-game effort.   Cole leads the Tigers with four home runs and 20 RBIs this season.

Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) picked up the win on the mound in game two, throwing a complete-game, seven-hitter, striking out six.  Morehouse led off the contest by blasting her first collegiate home run over the centerfield fence.

Senior catcher Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) and second baseman Allison Ingalls (Cuba, NY/Cuba-Rushford) (Cuba, NY-Cuba-Rushford) also hit home runs for RIT.  Nailos was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for the Tigers in game two.  Ingalls hit a two-run blast in the first game. 

Sophomore Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) continued her hot hitting, going 3-for-4 with a triple, run scored and run batted in in game one.  She was 2-for-3 with a double in game two.  McPherson is hitting .636 (14-for-22) over her last eight games.

Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) was 3-for-3, while Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) was 2-for-3 in game one.

The Tigers have hit six homers in their last three games.

The Tigers are back in action on Thursday, as they travel to D'Youville College to a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
