Softball Sweeps Skidmore; Offense Explodes for 22 Runs in Game Two

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -
The RIT softball team enjoyed a record-breaking afternoon on Sunday, as the Tigers swept a doubleheader from Skidmore College.  RIT won game one 5-2 and  exploded for 22 runs in game two, securing a 22-1 victory in five innings to improve to 11-13 in 2008.  Skidmore is now 7-17.   The 22 runs and 20 hits recorded in game two mark season highs for the Tigers.

The Tigers jumped all over Skidmore in game two, scoring 14 first-inning runs to set a school record for most runs scored in a single inning.  In all, the Tigers sent 20 players to the plate in the opening frame. All nine starters had at least one hit in the contest.

Freshman first baseman Carlissa Cole (Alden, NY/Alden) (Alden, NY/Alden) tied two school records in game two, slamming a pair of home runs, including a fifth-inning grand slam to go along with a double to equal a single mark of 10 total bases.  She drove in seven runs, one shy of the school record.

Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY/Hudson) tied a single-game record with five hits.  She was 5-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs.  Emily McPherson (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) (Pompey, NY/Fabius-Pompey) broke a single-game RIT mark with five runs scored.  She was 3-for-3 with two walks and a pair of runs batted in.

Senior catcher Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and four RBIs.  Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) drove in three runs, to go along with a double and two runs scored.  Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) drove in a pair of runs, while Katie Fitzpatrick (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) was 1-for-3 with a run scored and RBI.

Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) picked up the win on the mound, allowing three hits and the one run, striking out three in the complete game.

In game one, the Tigers scored two runs in the first and built a 4-0 lead after five innings to earn the 5-2 victory.

Cole picked up her eighth win of the season on the hill for RIT, allowing five hits and two runs, striking out two in the complete game effort.

Richards reached base in all four plate appearances for RIT, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, run scored and RBI.  McPherson was 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Mausolf drove in a pair of runs.

Mausolf had six hits on the day, raising her batting average 62 points to .350.  McPherson nearly doubled her runs scored output on the year on Sunday. 

The Tigers are back in action on Monday, as they travel to Medaille to play the Mavericks in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
