Men's Tennis Starts Off 2008 Season With Win Over Roberts Wesleyan

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team (1-0) opened their 2008 season with a 6-3 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday afternoon in the Gordon Field House.

The Tigers won second and third doubles. In the second flight, junior Han Chong (Penang, Malaysia/Penang Free School) (Penang, Malaysia/Penang Free School) and junior Chris Muench (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) secured an 8-2 victory. The sophomore duo of John Traver (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and John Albers (Grands Rapids, MI/Forest Hills) (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills) won 8-2 at third doubles.

RIT claimed wins at first, fourth, fifth and sixth singles. Junior Jose Guzman (Guatemala/Collegio Valle Verde) (Guatemala/Collegio Valle Verde) won at first singles, 7-6, 6-2. Chong secured a 6-2, 6-2 win at third singles, Muench was triumphant in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0 and senior Mauricio Pommier (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/German) (Santa Cruz, Bolivia/German) was victorious at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-0.

The Tigers are back in action Thursday, March 20 as they host Ithaca in a match that begins at 4 p.m. in the Gordon Field House.
