OSWEGO, NY – Freshman goaltender #Amy Torgerson (Owatonna, MN/Gilmour Academy)# (Wentzville, MO) recorded her first collegiate shut-out, as the #5 RIT women's hockey team (8-1-1, 6-1-1 ECAC West) blanked host SUNY Oswego (4-5-1, 2-5-1 ECAC West) in an ECAC West match-up on Saturday evening.
Torgerson made 11 saves in the win, as she improves to 2-0-0 this season.
RIT has now won five in a row and are unbeaten in their last six games (5-0-1). Under Head Coach Scott McDonald, now in his third season, the Tigers are 26-3-1 over the first 10 games of the season.
A night after recording her first career hat-trick, #Kylie Mazzetta (Lakewood, CO/Colorado Selects)# (Lakewood, CO) scored two more goals for the Tigers. She now has five goals in the last two games after scoring one in her first 29 collegiate games.
Junior forward #Missy Hall (Chesterland, OH/Gilmour Academy)# (Chesterland, OH) recorded a team-high three points on a goal and two assists. Sophomore defenseman #Traci Galbraith (Oakville, Ontario/Burlington Jr. Barracudas)# (Oakville, Ontario) added a goal and an assist.
#Sarah Dagg (St. George, Ontario/Hamilton Hawks)# (St. George, Ontario) scored her fifth goal in the last three games for RIT. Dagg now has a team-best nine tallies and 16 points on the year.
The Tigers blasted 55 shots on goal for the second straight, out-shooting SUNY Oswego 55-11. RIT was 1-for-6 with the man-advantage, while Oswego was 0-for-6. Erin Williams made 50 saves for Oswego.
RIT has fired at least 55 shots in the last three games. The Tigers have out-scored their foes 30-4 over their five-game winning streak.
Last night, the Tigers scored six third period goals to upend the Lakers, 9-2.
The Tigers wrap-up their 2008 portion of the schedule with a road contest at Hamilton on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Tigers downed Hamilton in Rochester, 6-1, this past Wednesday.
