Tigers Lose on Last Second Shot

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team fell to cross-town rival, University of Rochester 70-68 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at the Palestra. The Yellowjackets scored the winning bucket with two seconds remaining in regulation on a layup by Marcus Roverson.

RIT's Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) (Strongsville, OH) paced the Tigers with a triple-double. He scored 18 points, dished out 10 assists and grabbed 11 rebounds. He hit two free throws with 11 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 68-68.

Senior forward Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY) had a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. He went 5-of-8 from the floor and made 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) chipped in 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor including four three pointers.

RIT controlled the action for much of the first healf, leading by as many as 13 points and 12 points on four separate occasions. Carson's layup with 15:32 remaining in the half capped off a 12-0 run to start the game for the Tigers.

#Marcus Lowe (Anchorage, AK/Service)'s# (Anchorage, AK/Service) three-pointer with 11:31 remaining gave RIT their biggest lead of 13 points.

The Yellowjackets went on a 14-7over the final 6:20 to cut RIT's lead to 33-30 at the half. Max Kaplan's three-pointer with 1:33 to play tied the score at 30-30.

Shawn Roe (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY/Corning East) responded for the Tigers, draining a three with 32 seconds to play, giving the Tigers a three-point lead at the break.

The lead went back and forth in the second half with seven lead changes and 10 ties in the half. The Tigers led 66-58 with 3:07 remaining in regulation and looked to have the game won.

William Serle's layup with 2:50 to play cut the lead to 66-62. Marcus Roberson made an old fashioned three-point play with 2:19 remaining cutting the Tigers lead to 66-63.

Mike Lebanowski tied the score at 66-66 with 1:40 remaining on a three-pointer off an assist from Max Kaplan.

Serle gave the Yellowjackets a 68-66 lead with a layup wuth 42 seconds remaining.

Nate Korinchak (Strongsville, OH/Strongsville) was fouled by John Charlesworth with 11 seconds remaining while shooting. He calmly stepped up and drained both free throws, tying the score at 68-68.

On Rochester's ensuing possession Marcus Roberson made the game-winning bucket with two seconds remaining.

Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville)'s attempted in bounds was stolen by Chmielowiec as time ran out on the Tigers.

The loss drops RIT to 2-2 on the season, while Rochester improves to 5-1. RIT will face Nazareth College on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm in Pittsford, NY.
