ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's hockey team hosts the College of Holy Cross at Ritter Arena on Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1 at 7:05 p.m. in a pair of key Atlantic Hockey contests.
Austin Spencer Collision is sponsoring Friday's contest. There will be a tire roll contest between the first and second periods. On Saturday, Bugaboo Creek Steak House is the game sponsor. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a free Bugaboo Creek t-shirt.
In addition, longtime voice of the Tigers Randy Bloechl will be honored on Saturday night. Bloechl was the play-by-play annoucer for WITR 89.7 FM for 27 years, before stepping down after the 2007-08 season.
RIT (1-4-1, 0-1-1 Atlantic Hockey) recorded a tie and a loss in its first Atlantic Hockey games of the season at Sacred Heart. RIT rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the Pioneers, 3-3 on Friday, then fell by a score of 4-2 on Saturday. On Friday, goaltender
Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, Quebec/Ottawa Senators) (Chicoutimi, Quebec) became the first RIT goaltender to record two assists in a game at the Division I level. Freshman
Cameron Burt (Detroit, Mich./Green Bay Gamblers) (Detroit, MI) scored a goal in each game for RIT.
Holy Cross (1-1-1, 1-0-1 Atlantic Hockey) dropped its lone game last weekend, 6-4 to Providence before a sellout crowd of 2,032 fans at the Hart Center. Everett Sheen scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Crusaders. Holy Cross opened the season with a tie and win against Canisius. Sheen has five points in three games, while Brodie Sheehan leads the squad with three goals.
RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 10-5-0. The Tigers went 4-0 against Holy Cross last season, including two dramatic 5-4 overtime wins in the Atlantic Hockey Quarterfinals at Ritter Arena. Earlier the season, RIT defeated Holy Cross by scores of 5-2 and 5-1 on the road. The Tigers have won the last eight contests (six at the Division I level) against Holy Cross dating back to Nov. 4, 1983.
