STORRS, CT -- The RIT (12-9-4, 10-6-4 AHA) men's hockey team tied the University of Connecticut 1-1 in Atlantic Hockey Association action Saturday evening. The Tigers are now 12-9-4 overall and pick up a point in the AHA going to 10-6-4 on the season.
After a scoreless first period the Tigers finally broke through taking a 1-0 lead at 6:39 of the second on a power play tally by
Andrew Favot (King City, ON/Aurora Tigers) (King City, ON). Favot ripped a shot from the slot off a feed from
Brent Patry (Ottawa, ON/Cumberland Grads) (Ottawa, ON).
The goal broke an 85+ minute scoring drought by the Tigers dating back to last night's game.
Connecticut kept the pressure on the Tigers, forcing RIT to commit four penalties. The Huskies were able to capitalize on one power play late in the period, tying the score at 1-1 with 15 seconds remaining on a goal by Justin Hernandez.
The Tigers fired everything but the kitchen sink at Erickson in the third period, firing 15 shots on net.
Brent Alexin (West Seneca, NY/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) had a really good chance late in the third period and in the overtime session but Erickson came up big, making both stops.
Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, PQ/Ottawa Jr. Senators) made some key saves for RIT late in the contest on Steve Bergin, Jeff Sephia and B.J. Bayers in the overtime session to keep the game tied.
RIT outshot Connecticut 32-18, but went 1-for-4 with power play. The Tigers finished the weekend going 1-for-12 with the man advantage.
