Women's Swimming and Diving Gets Past William Smith

GENEVA, NY --
The RIT women's swimming and diving slipped past William Smith College, 126-108 on Tuesday evening.  RIT had five athletes win nine events, plus one relay.

Kristen Curtze (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) (Edinboro, PA/General McLane), Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) and Angie Palomaki (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) each won two single events to lead the way.

Curtze finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.70), and in the 100-yard freestyle (56.20).  She is one of the top swimmers in the state at those two distances.

Burr took first place in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.85 by nearly 12 seconds.  She also won the 100-backstroke in 1:03.20 by 3.73 seconds.

Ellen McCooe (Windsor, CT/Windsor) (Windsor, CT/Windsor) opened the evening with a big win in the 1,000-yard freestyle, separating nearly a minute between her and her closest competitor.  She won the event in a time of 11:40.51. 

Diver Cat Jones (Eden, NY/Eden) (Eden, NY/Eden) won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events.  She took the 1-meter in 198.00 and took the 3-meter in 202.30.

Angie Palomaki (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:04.97.  She also defeated McCooe in the 500-freestyle in a time of 5:36.41.  McCooe was 13 seconds back.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Burr, Curtze, Palomaki and Coleen Davis (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) won in 1:59.34.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, as they host LeMoyne in a dual meet at the Gordon Field House, beginning at 1 p.m.
