Volleyball Finishes 3-1 at Ithaca Invitational; Schaffer Named to All-Tournament Team

ITHACA, NY -
The RIT volleyball squad (6-2) finished 3-1 in tournament play for the second straight weekend, this time at the Ithaca Invitational.  On Saturday, the Tigers opened the day with a 19-30, 12-30, 23-30 loss against nationally-ranked Juniata, but came back to defeat St. John Fisher 29-31, 26-30, 30-25, 30-26, 15-8.  Junior Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the loss to Juniata, senior Michelle Skowzgird (Grayslake, IL/John Hersey) (Grayslake, IL/John Hersey) had 10 kills and four blocks.  Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) dished out 24 assistsand added 10 digs.

Against St. John Fisher, the Tigers found themselves down two games before winning the final three to annex the match, Schaffer had season-highs of 26 digs and 24 kills.  Boxler dished out a career-best 52 assists.  Senior Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) slammed 14 kills, recorded seven service aces and had four blocks.  Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/East Amherst) also recorded 14 kills.  Freshman Kristan Hernandez (Somerset, TX/Somerset) (Somerset, TX/Somerset) recorded 24 digs. 

RIT will host its own, 12-team, RIT Tournament on Friday and Saturday.  On Friday, RIT will host SUNY Potsdam at 4 p.m. and SUNY Fredonia at 8 p.m.
