Men's Soccer Defeats Host at Allegheny Soccer Classic, 2-1

MEADVILLE, PA -
The RIT men's soccer team won its third straight contest, defeating host Allegheny College by a score of 2-1 on Saturday in the first annual Allegheny College Soccer Classic.

RIT grabbed the lead in the first half when Jake Yates (Waynesburg, PA/Waynesburg) (Waynesburg, PA/Waynesburg) scored off of a Casey Rathbone (Austin, TX/Round Rock) (Austin, TX/Round Rock) assist in the 17th minute.  Yates' goal was the first of his collegiate career.

The Tigers continued to play stout defense and upped its lead to 2-0 in in the 69th minute, as Mark Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) tallied his fourth goal of the season and 22nd of his career.  Frisicano had a clear-cut breakaway and slid the ball past the Allegheny goalkeeper. 

Allegheny rallied with less than three minutes left to play when Phil Burdette redirected a header off of a corner kick. 

RIT goalkeeper Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) made five saves to record his third win of the season.  Ryan Larkin made two saves for the Gators.

Allegheny out-shot RIT 17-11 and held a 10-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Tigers conclude play in the Allegheny College Soccer Classic on Sunday against Oberlin at 12:30 p.m.
