ELMIRA, NY - The RIT women's tennis team (7-3, 4-2 Empire 8) upped its winning streak to two matches on Saturday afternoon, defeating Empire 8 rival Elmira 8-1.
RIT won all three doubles matches to start and finished with five of six singles wins. Brianne Francisco (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and Ksenyia Klyachko (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) won at first doubles, 8-5. Sara Paduano (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and Joanna Cash (Rochester, NY/Brighton) (Rochester, NY/Brighton) picked up the win at second doubles, 9-7 (8-6), while Leigh Bryson (Wallingford, CT/Mark T. Sheehan) (Wallingford, CT/Mark T. Sheehan) and Alexis Stanley (Vestal, NY/Vestal) (Vestal, NY/Vestal) won at third doubles, 8-1.
Francisco tallied the win at first singles, 6-1, 6-3. Stanley won at second singles 6-0, 6-0, while Bryson earned the victory at third singles, 6-0, 6-2. Freshman Michele Caporali (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at fourth singles. Klyachko picked up the win at fifth singles, 6-3, 6-0. Paduano was victorious at sixth singles, 6-0, 7-6 (6-5).
The Tigers are right back in action on Sunday, as they travel to Ithaca to play the Bombers in a conference match beginning at 1 p.m.
