Volleyball Wins Dramatic Five-Game Match Over Rochester to Extend Winning Streak to Six

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT women's volleyball team (11-2) rallied from a 2-1 deficit and extended its season-best winning streak to six matches after getting past the pesky University of Rochester Yellowjackets 28-30, 30-28, 29-31, 30-25, 15-13 at the Clark Gymansium on Tuesday evening.

RIT led 11-8 in the fifth and deciding game before Rochester scored four straight points to go up 12-11.  With the score tied at 12, RIT's Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) ripped an ace to put RIT up 13-12.  After exchanging points, Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) fed Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) who slammed a kill right down the middle to end the match in favor of the Tigers.

Sophomore middle hitter Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) slammed a career-best 25 kills to go along with seven blocks.  Boxler dished out a career-best 62 assists and added six blocks.  Haney had eight blocks, while Schaffer recorded 22 kills and 16 digs.  Junior Christine Rowinski (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) compiled 24 digs.

Jessica Rasmussen led the Yellowjackets (9-5) with 24 digs and 16 kills.  Rachel Bender had 48 assists.

The Tigers are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, when they travel to St. John Fisher to compete in Empire 8 pool play.
