ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT men's soccer team (4-2-1) had over 20 shots for the second straight game and held a 14-0 edge on corner kicks, but were unable to find the back of the net, as the Tigers had their five-game unbeaten streak snapped by Clarkson University, 1-0 on Saturday at RIT Field.

Clarkson (2-3-1) got the only goal of the contest in the 22nd minute, as Seni Makinde made a great run down the right sideline, flying past two RIT defenders. He then crossed the ball over to Scott Marcinkowski, who, parked to the left of the Tiger net, chipped the pass into the open side to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.

RIT generated several excellent scoring chances over the opening 45 minutes, out-shooting Clarkson 14-5, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Just four minutes in, Allen Nicholson (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) made a strong run down the left side, but his shot flew wide. Chuck Marion (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) had six shots in the opening half, and a pair of great chances just four minutes apart that were denied.

RIT kept its pressure up after the goal, as they attempted seven first-half corner kicks.

The Tigers held the majority of play over the first 20 minutes of the second half, but a pair of Tiger defensive miscues led to two great chances by the Golden Knights, both by Makinade. His first chance came on a giveaway, but Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster) came up with a big save. Minutes later, Makinade took a shot from just outside the box that eluded a diving Smith, but grazed the left goal post.

Endri Kita (Albany, NY/Albany) (Albany, NY/Albany) had RIT's best chance midway through the final half, as he found himself alone in front of the Clarkson net. His shot, however, was stuffed by goalkeeper Jonathon Rushing.

RIT out-shot Clarkson 22-9. Rushing stopped three shots to earn the win for Clarkson. Smith made three saves in defeat for the Tigers.

The Tigers are back in action on Friday, as they open Empire 8 play with a road match at Alfred University. The contest gets underway at 6 p.m.
