ROCHESTER, NY -- Chris Somers (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY) tied the score at 1-1 in the 56th minute as RIT (4-1-1) and St. Lawrence (2-1-2) played to a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon at RIT Field.
The Tigers tied the score on a counter-attack.
Mark Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (Rochester, NY) found open field and sped down the left side. He spotted a wide open
Daniel Holowaty (Strongsville, OH/St. Ignatious) (Strongville, OH) who was streaking down the middle and fed him a pass.
Holowaty's shot was saved by Emiliio Coletta but the rebound came to Somers, who was trailing the play, and he drilled it home, tying the score at 1-1.
Mike Bobbie had give the Saints a 1-0 lead just minutes before on a counter-attack of their own. Terrance O'Brien provided the feed.
Bobbie was sent off late in the second half after receving his second yellow card, puting the Saints a man down.
Chuck Marion (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (Syracuse, NY) had a penalty kick chance saved in the first half.
Marion got the chance when
Allen Nicholson (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA) was taken down inside the penalty area. Marion's low shot was head for the left corner but Emilio Coletta dove to his right and made the save.
Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) (Lancaster, PA) faced one shot on goal for the Tigers. RIT out shot the Saints 23-6.
The Tigers will face Clarkson University on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm.
